Regional Prevention Center of SEK: June 2008

The Regional Prevention Center of Southeast Kansas

Established in 1987, the Regional Prevention Center of Southeast Kansas serves the 11 counties of Southeast Kansas: Allen, Anderson, Bourbon, Cherokee, Crawford, Labette, Linn, Montgomery, Neosho, Wilson and Woodson.

The RPC works directly with local groups and individuals to mobilize communities through the Strategic Prevention Framework using data to target high risk area for youth. This information can then be used to implement new prevention services and/or make existing prevention services more available.

Welcome Wendi O'Rand to the RPC

The Regional Prevention Center is pleased to announce that Wendi O'Rand is the new Prevention Specialist. She began working in the Regional Prevention Center in June 2008 and will working with communities to move through the strategic prevention framework.

RPC Staff

Misty Burke, Coordinator
Misty joined the RPC in January 2000. Misty is trained in Communities That Care Model, Kansas Baseline, Teen Baseline and Spiceline Training. She assists community coalitions in the 11- county Southeast Kansas region in the understanding of the risk and protective factors, data and science-based programs that are proven to impact problem behaviors such as substance abuse. Misty is a native of Parsons and a graduate of Pittsburg State University with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Misty has been a Certified Prevention Professional in Kansas since 2004.

Wendi O'Rand, Prevention Specialist
Wendi joined the RPC in June 2008. Sh will be working with community coalitions and assisting them with the strategic prevention framework. She is a native of Southeast Kansas, and a graduate of Pittsburg State University with a bachelor's degree in education.

Lisa Schossow, Prevention Specialist
Lisa joined the RPC as a Prevention Specialist in April 2007. She serves Allen, Cherokee, and Woodson county coalitions and is a certified Kansas Baseline facilitator. She previously worked in the RPC while attending college and most recently was a Marketing and Volunteer Specialist with YouthFriends Kansas. Lisa is a native of Girard, KS and a graduate Pittsburg State University with a degree in Business Administration.
